Timelessness by Design: Inside Philadelphia’s Borromini

How do you make a new restaurant in Rittenhouse Square feel like it has always been there?

For the team at Stokes Architecture, the answer lay in the details. To realize the vision of STARR Restaurants and Keith McNally for the new Borromini Ristorante, the design leaned into classic Roman archetypes—specifically, sweeping, tile-clad vaulted arches and columns.

Heritage Tile was honored to support this project with our Subway Ceramics collection. Here’s how we moved from concept to reality:

  • Historical Authenticity: We applied our 20 years of restoration experience to provide tilework that honors prewar American craftsmanship.
  • Precision Modeling: Our design consultants used 3D CAD modeling to translate Stokes Architecture’s vision into a precise technical roadmap and material list.
  • Sculptural Execution: By mapping out every component, we ensured the tile wrapped around the restaurant’s complex architectural curves as a seamless surface.
